On January 25, 2012 the Missouri Valley HOSA (Health Occupation Students of America) chapter participated in the regional conference held at Iowa Western Community College. During the conference we had many different speakers talk about a range of topics from computer technology in the healthcare field to crime scene investigation involving healthcare. These presentations were very interesting and helpful in informing us of different ways we can be involved in the healthcare field. We then proceeded to take a knowledge tests in either medical terminology, concepts of healthcare, or medical math. This gave us an opportunity to understand how to prepare ourselves for our upcoming tests that each of us will take in March at the state leadership conference. There was then a demonstration of how a HOSA bowl competition is conducted by the Harlan HOSA chapter. Questions pertaining to the healthcare field were read to two teams of 3 to 4 people who would answer accordingly after “buzzing in” and being recognized by the judges. Overall, we had a very informative and fun day at regionals as we caught a glimpse of what we will encounter at state. HOSA State Leadership Conference will take place March 25th-27th in Des Moines. Thank you to all of the participants and advisors, especially Mrs. Fichter and Mrs. Clausen, who help made regionals the best it could be!
