March 30, 2012

Quiz Bowl News

Logan Magnolia’s High School and Jr. High Quiz Bowl teams have had a very busy 2011-2012 season so far and still have a month to go.  Quiz Bowl has one of the longest seasons beginning Practice in September and finishing tournament play in April.
High School team members include Braden Rosengren, Carina Huang, Austin Ettleman, Robert Rydberg, Sara Riley, Ellen McGrew, Sara Stueve and Taylor Gebel.  Jr. High team members include Martha Sherwood, Kristin Foreman, Gina Nield and Dani Dobbs.
Since the first of the year the High School teams have participated in the KCAU – TV Tournament, the Bishop Heelan Tournament, Sioux City North High’s Sarcastic Scholastic Summit,  the Papillion LaVista High School Tournament, and the WVC Tournament. Although being a “young” team with no seniors on the Varsity team and no sophomores on the JV team we’ve had a successful year so far bringing home some awards but more importantly gaining experience for next years season.

The JV team tied for 3rd at the WVC Tournament.  This was the highest any Lo-Ma team has every placed in a conference tournament.  The team had fun celebrating with Ellen McGrew when she was awarded the “Coveted Morning Medal of Mediocrity” for scoring the exact median at the Sarcastic Scholastic Summit.  At the Papillion LaVista Tournament, although being the smallest school attending the Lo-Ma A team was seeded 8th after the morning rounds and defeated Fremont before losing to 4th place Seward A.  Lo-Ma’s Novice team brought home a 4th place plaque.

The Jr. High has also been busy.  Twenty-six of Lo-Ma’s top 7th and 8th graders took a time 100 question on-line exam in February.  Results will be sent out to teams in April.
Lo-Ma’s High school teams will be participating in a NAQT qualifier in Alta Aurelia, a Ninth grade tournament in Lincoln, NE as well as the KMO Spring on-line tournament.

Lo-Ma’s Jr. High team will also be traveling to Lincoln for the Jr. High tournament as well as participating in the KMO Spring on-line tournament.  Seventh and Eight graders  have been invited to participate in the Thinking Cap Challenge, an on-line, team tournament held in April.
