It's About Time

Beginning in the 2018-19 school year, the Logan-Magnolia secondary, grades 7 - 12, will begin to make time serve the students instead of students serving time.

Logan-Magnolia Jr./Sr. High School is in the midst of transformation -- transformation that looks at the individual needs of each and every student, creating a climate where the time is less about a mechanical, old-fashioned, factory-trained schedule, and more about a structure where students take ownership over their time, have access to the expert resources that will lead to deeper involvement in their content, and will develop the skills of managing time instead of allowing time to manage them.

Secondary Principal, Mrs. Christi Gochenour, says, “No schedule has the power to change the culture of a school. It is the thinking behind the schedule -- the assumptions, beliefs, and expectations that led to its creation – that makes a schedule so powerful. Building an effective system of intervention and extension is a natural outgrowth of our faculty’s recognition that our professed mission to help all students learn at high levels will never be more than words on paper until we take specific actions.”

For the purposes of establishing a system of intervention and extension, while making sure that each and every student who is going to become an independent adult learns at high levels, we are moving to a secondary schedule called the Flex Mod.

Stay tuned for how this will work!
