Coronavirus Updates--March 26, 2020

Dear Parents,

We are finishing up week 2 of the coronavirus shutdown. My prayer is that all is well with you and your family during these trying times. This crisis will end and my hope is that we will all be stronger when it does. Below are a few updates and reminders as we deal our new norm:

  1. The principals, Mrs. Gochenour and Mrs. Kiger, will be reaching out to the parents of the students in their respective buildings. In addition, I know most of the teachers have been reaching out to you and providing resources that you can share with your children. I know that the resources they are sending do not replace core instruction, however they will help keep your children focused on education.

  2. The lunch program worked well during our first run. It was wonderful to see the smiling faces of the students who came with their parents to pick up the food. It made me realize how much I miss the kids.

  3. Remember that you need to go to the website to sign up for the lunch program. Please read the form carefully since the instructions may change from time to time. In addition, please hit the submit button only once. If you hit it twice your order will double.

  4. The governor of Iowa, Kim Reynolds, made a plea to the citizens of our state to go to reliable sources to find the latest updates on the coronavirus. I echo her message. Social media is not a reliable source for important information. It is a tool that was designed to give families and friends a way to keep in touch with each other, not as a reliable news source. Please keep this in mind.

  5. As administrators, we are keeping on top of information from the Department of Education. They have not given us any official recommendations as far how we will proceed with the present school year. Please understand that there is a possibility that we could make up days at the end of this semester. Obviously, this has not been decided, it is just something I wanted you to keep in mind as you plan your calendar.

In closing, I want to encourage you to take advantage of any extra time you may have with your family. Family time is a gift, please cherish it to the fullest.

Mr. Ridder
