The Logan-Magnolia Music Program consists of grades K-12 in a tight-knit community of passionate music supporters. Our school and students recognize the importance of the lessons that can be learned through quality music programs, and our teachers work with steadfast persistence to make it all a reality. Our mission is to grow our students into better musicians, better people, and lifelong learners.

Elementary Music

4th & 5th Grade Musical

At Logan-Magnolia, we have a strong musical theatre program that starts at the elementary level. Each year we produce a 30-minute musical to showcase in the spring. In our productions, we have actors who play roles, ensembles, and stage crew. We partner with non-profit organizations during each production to raise funds for their organization.

This year, we will perform "A Year with Frog & Toad KIDS" on Friday, March 6th, 2026. More information will be posted here soon!

5th Grade Honor Choir/Band

We take selected students to audition and participate in honor choirs/bands around the state of Iowa. These students learn challenging music and perform with others from various schools.

Instrumental Music

6th Grade Band

The 6th Grade Band is made up of students who are typically in their second year of playing their instrument, but is always open to students interested in joining. 6th graders work on developing a more mature sound while continuing to build note and rhythm reading and ensemble skills.

Junior High Band

The JH Band is made up of 7th and 8th graders in their third or fourth year of playing. At this point in their band career we are working on building skills that will prepare them for the HS Band. There are multiple opportunities for students to participate in honor bands through this group including auditioning for the MS Southwest Iowa Honor Band. Students in JH Band also have the opportunity to join the JH Jazz Band aka The Jazz Cats. This group works on jazz styles of music as well as skills in soloing and improvisation and competes in a competition in March.

High School Band

The HS Band is open to all students, grades 9-12 who are interested in developing their musical abilities. This class focuses on developing students as better musicians and better students, by exposing them to a wide variety of repertoire and fostering a supportive community of peers. This ensemble participates in street and field marching band, football and basketball pep band, as well as numerous concert band performances throughout the year. Students also have the opportunity to participate in areas outside of these, such as auditioning for All State, auditioning for honor bands, and participating in solo/small ensemble contest.

"The 127" Jazz Ensemble

The 127 is the HS jazz ensemble. Students in this group are accepted through an audition process. Thise group competes in the second semester at between 5 and 6 competitions. This is a high performing group and has a tradition of making it to the Iowa Jazz Championships in Ames since 2019. In 2025, the group placed 6th out of 15 groups invited.

Vocal Music

Concert Choir

Do you want to be part of a successful group that enjoys music? Concert Choir is for any student. It allows you to be in two choirs during one class, where you will study many different styles of music and will get ready to compete at State Large Group in May. You will also experience three seasonal concerts per year. (Plus every four years you are eligible to travel with the group to Disney World!) Almost half of Lo-Ma high school students take Concert Choir, so don’t miss out on the fun!

Advanced Vocal Music

If you'd like more experience in choral music, this class is for you. Advanced Vocal Music is an auditioned choir that works on the Iowa All State music in the first eight weeks and Show Choir in the last eight weeks. You will have the opportunity to audition for the Iowa All State chorus in October and then prepare the competition show for Show Choir. Show Choir will compete in the spring semester.
